A white or pale yellow solid with an initial melting point of 38 °C; soluble in isopropanol, toluene, xylene and mineral oil when heated.
Application
1. In the plastics industry it is mainly used in polyethylene film to treat starch, talc and calcium carbonate, giving better thermal stability, no bubbling during blown-film processing, easy filler dispersion and good mechanical properties; it also lowers melt viscosity, improves processing, reduces machine wear and raises productivity, while improving thermal stability, surface finish and dimensional stability and allowing higher filler loadings that cut resin consumption and cost.
2. In the rubber industry it is used in rubber products with various inorganic fillers, improving tear strength and elongation at break.
3. In coatings, inorganic minerals treated with this product such as calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide and iron oxide (magnetic powder) allow higher solids loading, lower viscosity and easier dispersion.
4. It also forms coordination bonds with reactive groups of coating resins, giving the film better abrasion and corrosion resistance.
Magnetic powder treated with this product shows better dispersion and adhesion in substrates.
